January 1st 2015

Some words still cat call me, some that leer.
those that cost me a breath and a tear
Life is still a vicious circle
that circumvents on its own axis, and not mine.
Still this morning, the sun rose from the east
melting the frost on my windows
I woke up to a silent house
made tea, broke the fast
on the first morning of the year.

I try and eat smiles, like I do
any day of the year
today it's a start, all over again
jaws hurt, still I can put a ear to ear display.
The mirror doesn't lie
it doesn't know emotions like us
it sees what we show it.
Another year, I will try and hijack the stage
stage a show, who knows
someone may catch hold of the warmth of a smile
when the mask will fall
and apologies will turn friends into foes
and thankfulness will make strangers dear.
